Tango Spotlight: Scott

This week's Tango Spotlight features Scott. He's ten years old and has Global Apraxia.

Scott is the boss - and he'll be the first to tell you, too. He leads songs with his family and cracks jokes at the dinner table. He shares his day at school in an inclusion classroom and gets everyone involved in counting activities. Before the Tango, Scott's family did their best to guess at what he wanted to say, but there was very little conversation beyond his one-word answers, and the two devices he'd tried previously didn't meet with much (or any) success.

Before the Tango, Scott never asked questions and made very few comments. Now, as he reads Level E books, he uses the Tango to make comments about whether or not he's getting it. And to talk about what he's reading. Together, he and his educational therapist use the Tango to write about the stories they read. They do word searches for new
sight words in Core Words and use the sounds in Lists to decode words.

We'll leave you with a quick story from his mother. She says, "I asked Scott to tell us about school and he very deliberately pushed a button that said 'I'm the boss.' He sure told me what he felt! And suddently I realized how wonderful it must have felt for him to be in charge of what he says."
