TDI Urges Letters of Support for H.R. 6320, the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act

H.R. 6320, the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act was introduced yesterday June 18, 2008, in the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan sponsorship led by Ed Markey (D-MA) and Heather Wilson (R-NM).  In a matter of hours, Lois Capps, Hilda Solis (both D-CA) and Barney Frank (D-MA) also signed on as additional co-sponsors.  As a member of The Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology (COAT), TDI and approximately 200 other national and local organizations in the coalition are very pleased that this bill is finally moving forward.

Rep. Markey said, "New Internet-based technologies have revolutionized the way Americans interact, learn and conduct business. However the wizardry of the wires and the sophistication of software programs do little for those who cannot affordably access or effectively use them. This bill is an opportunity to ensure that all Americans are offered equal access to these exciting and innovative new technologies."

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED:

Call or fax today to encourage your member of Congress to become a  co-sponsor of this bill.  The top priority right now is to get the support of members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which must be the first to pass the bill. The official list of committee members is at:
