Assistive Technology Specialist
 

 
Pennsylvania's Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT), Institute on Disabilities at Temple University
 

The AT Specialist serves as Consumer Educator for the Telecommunication Device Distribution Program (TDDP) and the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Lending Library, with primary focus on statewide events, supporting consumers, and preparing relevant reports. Conducts assistive technology device demonstrations, trainings, and presentations for consumers, families, students, and providers. Travels independently regionally, statewide and nationally, and transports, sets-up and uses devices and materials necessary to provide consumers support, device demonstrations, AT trainings and presentations. Coordinates the Recycled and Exchanged Equipment Partnership (REEP) statewide, oversees REEP subcontractors, and prepares reports on statewide REEP activities.  Performs other duties as assigned.  

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (preferably in a field related to services for people with disabilities and/or technology), with three (3) or more years relevant experience working with people with disabilities.  An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.  ATP credentialed or eligible.  

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology devices, such as telecommunications, computer access, assistive listening, and low vision devices, etc.

*Demonstrated ability to conduct trainings and to work with diverse groups of people, including persons with disabilities.

*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

*Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers, the internet and MS Office software programs, especially, MS Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel.

*Ability to travel to off-site locations that may not be accessible via public transportation. Some overnight travel is required.

*Ability to lift/move training materials that are approx. 40lbs in weight. 

Preferred:

* Master's Degree.
