Maximizing Assistive Technology in
Consumers' Hands

September 14, 2001
Boston Accessibility Unconference

DATE:  Saturday, September 17, 2011
TIME:   8:00 am (registration) to 5:00 pm
LOCATION:  Microsoft NERD Center

This IT accessibility unconference
brings people together in an informal, non-threatening environment to learn from each other and to promote universal design of and accessibility to IT.  The target audience of the Boston Accessibility Unconference is intended to include:  web developers, software developers, people involved in Government 2.0, other IT professionals, usability professionals, students of computer science/web development/multimedia/IT, along with end-users with disabilities and IT accessibility professionals.  The expectation is that many, but not all, participants will be at the introductory to intermediate-level when it comes to being knowledgeable about accessibility.

Doors open at 8 am for registration and (free!) continental breakfast.  Sessions start at 9 am with a keynote address by Larry Goldberg, Director at WGBH National Center for Accessible Media.

What is an un-conference?

Have you ever paid to go to a conference and realized that you didn't learn much from the paid speakers, that the presentations seemed more like sales pitches, or that the hallway discussions were more valuable than the organized events?  These are the reactions that let to "un-conferences" such as BarCamps and WordCamps.

An un-conference is a great way for people who are interested in the same topic to get together for an semi-structured day of content and networking.  The conference schedule is filled in by the attendees that morning, so, unlike other conferences, you actually get to participate in sessions that you are interested in, not what the conference organizers think you might be interested in.
