FCC Hosts Awards for Advancement in Accessibility |
On October 28, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hosted the Chairman's Awards for Advancement in Accessibility. Chairman Genachowski's hopes for such an event were to honor the development of "mainstream and assistive technologies, the development of standards, and the implementation of best practices that foster accessibility." The Chairman's 2011 winners included: Accesswireless.org; LookTel Money Reader; Microsoft Accessibility Tools and Training Resources; non-Vision Desktop Access; Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Coach; Universal Subtitles; and iPhone 4. Also honored at the event were the winners of the FCC Challenge Lifted by the Cloud: Visions of Cloud Enhanced Accessibility. Winners of the Cloud Challenge include: AT&T Speech Mashups for Accessibility and the Farfalla Project. For more information, visit the FCC website.
