OVERVIEW: Now more than any time in history, we are challenged with limited time and limited resources to obtain needed assistive technology solutions.  This webinar will demonstrate creative uses of everyday materials for creating hundreds of assistive technology solutions in minutes.  Participants will learn how to use Loc-Line, PVC, Acrylic, Stratacore, Flagpole Holders, Astrowhite, Formular and 15 different tapes, fasteners and adhesives for making, mounting and modifying solutions.

OVERVIEW: This webinar provides resources for keeping up to date with new cognitive support technologies and provides examples of products and vendors. Cognitive Support Technologies are a class of AT designed to help with memory, attention, concentration, perception, executive functioning and so on. Depending on individual need and preference, individuals with dementia, or traumatic and acquired brain injury or who were born with intellectual disability, can potentially benefit from:
  • Personal AssistanceStrategies
  • Everyday Technologies (e.g. Apple iPhone)
  • Specialized Technologies (e.g. Jitterbug phone)  

Which one, or combination, is most appropriate for an individual requires an early and comprehensive assessment.The presentation will outline the process for selecting, integrating and utilizing assistive technology for persons with cognitive disability. Each stage of the process will be examined in depth, as will the parameters requiring consideration at each stage.

 
Write On! Free Web-based Tools to Support Writing

TIME:  3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
OVERVIEW: This session will explore free web-based tools that support the basic constructs of Universal Design for Learning. Strategies for engaging learners to write and express their knowledge creatively using these tools will be highlighted throughout the session. Participants will walk away with ideas that they can put to use right away without the need for purchasing new equipment or software.

Participants will explore a range of free web-based tools, such as PhotoPeach, GingerSoft, Animoto, and Read/Write/Think that can be used to support writing for students with diverse needs. They will learn how utilizing multimedia applications along with spelling and grammar supports can engage reluctant writers and promote the type of written language skills required in most standards based educational settings. Participants will learn how to maximize the use of tools that are free or low cost in these cost cutting times and how to integrate them with tools that they may already have.
