Determining Access to Electronic Devices for Individuals with Physical Disabilities.

(March 27th 6:00 - 7:30 PM)

Assistive technology can allow an individual with a physical disability to write an email, turn a room fan on and off, operate a wheelchair, and write a blog.  This presentation will discuss considerations when assessing how an individual will access an electronic device, present some rehabilitation and mainstream technologies that can be adapted, and highlight some case examples.

Presenter: Kevin Berner, MS OTR/L, ATP. Kevin has been a licensed occupational therapist in neurological, education and community settings since 2005, and has used technology with people with disabilities since 2000. He is currently an adjunct lecturer in the Boston University Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program and has presented about technology at local and national conferences. He holds a certification in assistive technology from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) and is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
