This workshop will take a look at Apple iDevices and how they can be used to support successful communication with a variety of users.  We will discuss AAC apps and other apps that can be used to promote positive interactions across environments.  Use of switch-based apps will also be discussed.  We will talk about the importance of social closeness, and strategies for creating fun, meaningful exchanges between users and their communication partners.  There will be an opportunity for discussion, problem solving and idea sharing with the group.

This workshop will show you how Kurzweil 3000 and Firefly will allow you to take the next steps toward making content accessible to all students and how to integrate it into your current lesson plans.  You will learn how to access Bookshare and other e-Text resources, how to scan worksheets and handouts, and how to convert teacher-made electronic resources into the Kurzweil format for full access.  We will also review how to use the dictionary and thesaurus, word prediction and graphic organizer features of the writing tools to support the writing process form start to finish.

iPad for Learners with Significant Special Needs

This workshop will review ways to use an iPad to engage, motivate and teach learners with severe special needs.  Topics will include apps for cause and effect, using a switch with an iPad, apps for cortical vision impairment and more.  Participants should have working knowledge of the iPad and working with students with severe special needs.
