Are Your Captions On?
These days effective assistive technology integration in schools is, increasingly, about learning what is already in the classroom and how to use it. One tool to support students to become better readers is simple: turn on the closed captions when viewing video! Christopher Bugaj, co-author of The Practical (and Fun) Guide to Assistive Technology in Public Schools the makes this point in his recent TEDx talk. To principals he asks: is yours a captions on school? And to teachers: is your classroom? Of course parents can also turn on the captions at home and be encouraged to do so by their child's teacher!
