Using iPads for the Writing Process
iPads and their use for assisting students with writing levels the playing field for many students. There are many apps out there that can help the students through the writing process. From the beginning writer to the polished writer, apps can help students along the way. Have you ever looked at the iPad as a way to move students through the writing process taking them from sentence formation using simple language, to using phrases to write sentences, to writing simple paragraphs using graphic organizers and finally producing a final, polished piece? Learn about apps that move students across the writing continuum and how these apps can help students become better writers. Apps that come with pre-made templates will be shared as well as apps that allow for student creativity. Various graphic organizers will also be demonstrated to assist students in the organization of their ideas. Use of the iOS accessibility features will be demonstrated to show you how to really individualize the iPad to meet the needs of that particular student. Sharing work on the iPad is another area that can be a frustration to both students and educators. How work is shared will be discussed and demonstrated so you can maximize the power of the technology students are using. Many students also encounter word retrieval difficulties and apps that use word banks at various levels will be demonstrated so students can be successful contributors. So, if you use the iPad with students and want to learn how to maximize its use in the writing process, join me for an informational session that can get you jump started on making writing easier.
